US-Fahrer Kevin Pearce siegt vor Scotty Lago (USA) und Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) / Gefeierte Rückkehr des Kultevents Air & Style an seinen Ursprungsort Bergisel
Innsbruck, 02. Februar 2008 – Kevin Pearce hat bei der Rückkehr ins Bergisel Stadion den Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck-Tirol 08 mit einem Backside 540 Alley Oop mit einer Höhe von 7,10 Metern gewonnen. Er war bereits beim Nokia Air & Style 07 im Dezember in München erfolgreich. Der 20-jährige setzte sich im Superfinale der besten Acht um den begehrten Ring of Glory mit 270 Punkten knapp gegen Scotty Lago (258 Pkte./Frontside 720 Alley Oop, 6,80 m) und Peetu Piiroinen (257 Pkte./Backside 5 Tailgrab, 6,50 m) durch. Den „Swatch Highest Air“ gewann mit einer Höhe von 8,70 Meter Jack Mitrani (USA).
Air & Style-Gründer Andrew Hourmont: „Ich bin sehr glücklich und zufrieden mit der Rückkehr des Air & Style nach Innsbruck. Das Konzept, mit einem Quarterpipe-Contest auf den Bergisel zurück zu kommen, ist voll aufgegangen. Das sportliche Niveau war immens hoch. Ich bin von den Leistungen der Fahrer ebenso begeistert wie vom Publikum und unseren Partnern, die alle gemeinsam dieses grandiose Comeback möglich gemacht haben.“
Das mit €50.000 dotierte Swatch TTR World Tour Five-Star Event bot Snowboarden auf höchstem Niveau. Die 24 Fahrer beeindruckten die 12.000 Zuschauer im ausverkauften Bergisel-Stadion mit atemberaubenden Tricks in der 10,20 Meter hohen und 25 Meter breiten Quarterpipe. Werner Stock belegte als bester Österreicher den 12. Rang, Steve Gruber wurde 18. und Rudi Kröll 21.. Der deutsche Alex Schmalz belegte den 20. Rang. In bester Air & Style-Manier sorgten die Top Music Acts Dynamite Deluxe und Queens of the Stone Age für besten Sound und Stimmung.

Kevin Pearce wins Billabong Air & Style 08
U.S. rider Kevin Pearce beats Scotty Lago (USA) and Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) / Celebrated return of the Air & style to its birthplace InnsbruckInnsbruck, 02 February 2008 – Kevin Pearce has taken the victory at the Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck-Tirol 08 with a Backside 540 Alley Oop at a height of 7.10 metres. In December he had already won the Nokia Air & Style 07 in Munich. The 20-year old prevailed in the Top 8 Super Final with 270 points over Scotty Lago (258 points / Frontside 720 Alley Oop, 6.80 m high) and Peetu Piiroinen (257 points / Backside 540 Tailgrab, 6.5 m high). Jack Mitrani (USA) won the „Swatch Highest Air“ with a height of 8.70 metres.
Air & Style founder Andrew Hourmont: „I am most happy and satisfied with the Air & Style´s return to Innsbruck. To come back with a quarter pipe contest to Bergisel worked perfectly. The riding level was immensely high. I am as thrilled by the riders performance as by the audience and all our partners, who made this fantastic comeback possible.”
The Swatch TTR World Tour Five-Star Event (prize money of €50,000) offered snowboarding at top level. The 24 riders stoked the 12,000 spectators with breathtaking tricks in a quarter pipe measuring 10.20 metres high and 25 metres wide. In best Air & Style manner the top music acts Dynamite Deluxe and Queens of the Stone Age fully rocked the stadium.

Gerade vor ein paar Tagen gewann Shayne Pospisil den King of Quarter 08 und oben drauf den highest Air mit 9 Metern. Jetzt rückt er für Danny Davis nach und kommt schon bald nach Innsbruck. Danny Davis kann aus gesundheitlichen Gründen leider nicht am Billabong Air & Style 08 teilnehmen. Wir wünschen ihm eine gute Besserung!

Just some days ago Shayne Pospisil won not only the King of Quarter 08 but also the highest air in 9 meters height. Now, he will replace Danny Davis and come to Innsbruck real soon. Danny Davis will not be able to take part at the Billabong Air & Style 08 due to an injury. We wish him to get well soon.
Terje Haakonsen muss seiner Verletzung Tribut zollen.
Die Würfel sind gefallen, und Terje Haakonsen kann nicht am Billabong Air & Style teilnehmen. Eine sowohl späte als auch schwierige Entscheidung ist seit gestern Samstag beschlossene Sache. Mitte Dezember hatte sich Terje Haakonsen bei einem vergleichsweiße glimpflichen Sturz an der Schulter verletzt. Seit her war er kaum mehr auf dem Snowboard gestanden, hatte aber intensiv an einer baldigen Rückkehr gearbeitet. Leider hat es nicht gereicht und das Risiko ist zu groß. Auf diesem Weg wünschen wir Terje Haaksonen eine gute Genesung, und freuen uns auf Markku-Koski, ein weiterer bekannten Skandinavischen Fahrer, der den Altmeister zwar nicht ersetzten aber würdig vertreten wird.
Terje Haakonsen has to accept the consequences of his injury
The die is cast. Herje Haakonsen will not be able to participate at the Billabong Air & Style. A late and very difficult decision has been made on Saturday. As a consequence of a comparatively harmless fall in the middle of December Terje Haakonsen received an injury at the shoulder. Since that day Terje has not been riding again but nevertheless worked intensely on an early comeback. Unfortunately, it did not heal fast enough and thus the risk is too high. We wish Terje Haakonsen a speedy recovery and we are looking forward to welcoming another well-known Scandinavian Rider Markku Koski. Markku might not be replacing Terje but he is a worthy representative.

Colin Frei ersetzt verletzten Stefan Gimpl.
Auch wenn es ihm nicht leicht fällt muß Stefan Gimpl verletzt die Segel Streichen. Schon seit einem längeren Zeitraum zieht Stefan eine Verletzung im linken Sprunggelenk durch die Saison. Zuletzt bei den BEO hat sich diese Verletzung noch einmal verhärtet und das Risiko ist Mr. Air & Style zu groß. Er möchte jungen Fahrern die Möglichkeit geben, von denen sich einige anbieten. Einer davon ist Colin Frei, der für Stefan ins Feld rückt. Colin überzeugte zuletzt bei den O’Neill Evolution Quarter Pipe mit einem 5ten Platz. Wir wünschen Stefan auf diesem Weg gute Besserung und freuen uns auf Colin Frei.

Stefan Gimpl must withdraw due to an injury, although he really does not want to. Already for a longer period, Stefan is handicapped by his injury on the left ankle. At the BEO it even got worse and now the risk is too high, even for Mr. Air & Style. He prefers to give young riders the opportunity to take part instead and there are many who would fit in. One of them is Colin Frei who will replace Stefan. At the O’Neill Evolution Colin impressed in the Quarter Pipe with a 5th place. We wish Stefan to get well soon and are happy to welcome Colin in Innsbruck.
Die Norweger kommen!
Leider fallen Jake Blauvelt und Daniel EK verletzungsbedingt aus und können daher nicht am 02. Februar dabei sein. Wir wünschen gute Besserung! Als Ersatz kommen zwei viel versprechende Norweger. Fredrik Austbø ist ein absolut talentierter Fahrer, der nicht nur bei der Arctic Challenge sondern auch schon beim Air & Style am Start war. Der Zweite ist Tore Holvik, ein Talent aus dem Ort Geilo, er hat schon beim O’Neill Evolution mit einem 7m hohen Backside Air beeindruckt.

Unfortunately, Jake Blauvelt and Daniel EK had to cancel the Billabong Air & Style due to injuries. We wish both to get well real soon. As a replacement 2 very promising riders from Norway will join the contest. Fredrik Austbø is a very talented rider, who did not only start at the Arctic Challenge already but also at the Air & Style. The second is Tore Holvik, a talent from the lovely village Geilo. He already impressed at the O’Neill Evolution with a 7m high backside air.
Steve Gruber ersetzt Peter König
Peter König musste auf Grund eines gebrochenen Kahnbeins leider den Billabong Air & Style absagen. Wir wünschen Gute Besserung! Für Peter wird der local Hero Steve Gruber in Innsbruck an den Start gehen. Steve gewann im letzten Jahr den Ästhetiker Jam Wängl Tängl und ist nicht zum ersten Mal beim Air & Style dabei. Wir freuen uns auf den Österreicher!

Peter König broke his navicular bone and thus had to cancel the Billabong Air & Style. We wish him to get well soon. Instead of Peter the local hero Steve Gruber will start in Innsbruck. Steve won the Ästhetiker Jam Wängl Tängl last year and it’s not the first time that he takes part at the Air & Style. We are looking forward to welcoming the Austrian.
Der Schnee kommt ins Stadion
In Zusammenarbeit mit den Stubaitaler Gletscherbahnen rollen seit gestern 2.200 m3 Schnee in das Bergisel Stadion Innsbruck. Insgesamt werden fast 200 Lkw’s das weisse Gold in das Bergisel Stadion schaffen und somit die Basis für den Billabong Air & Style 08 legen.
Snow's arriving
In cooperation with the Stubaitaler Gletscherbahnen 2.200 m3 of snow are now being transported to the Bergisel Stadium Innsbruck since yesterday. In total nearly 200 trucks will carry the white gold to the Stadium and thus assure a basis for the Billabong Air & Style 08.
Matts Kulisek hat sich qualifiziert
Die Wildcard Billabong Ante Up wurde vergeben und somit steht der letzte Fahrer beim Billabong Air & Style 08 fest. Matts Kulisek hat die gesamte Konkurrenz in Calgary, Kanada hinter sich gelassen und ist damit Teil der erlesenen Runde am 2.2. in Innsbruck. Das Nachwuchstalent aus Montreal ist überglücklich. ‘To get a chance to compete at the Air and Style is a dream for sure’ meint Matts, der sich schon bald auf den Weg nach Innsbruck macht. Als Ersatz kommt Daisuke Murakami aus Japan angereist um in der weltgrößten Quarter Pipe seine Tricks zu präsentieren. Es ist das erste Mal seit langem, dass wir wieder einen japanischen Fahrer beim Air & Style begrüßen dürfen und es freut uns deswegen besonders Daisuke am 02. Februar dabei zu haben.

Der letzte Test war mehr als nur ein Erfolg
Am 09. Januar war es soweit, die letzten Tests zum Billabong Air & Style Quarter Pipe Innsbruck-Tirol 08 wurden erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Nachdem sich zwei Universitäten mit der Berechnung der erforderlichen Radien beschäftigt haben hieß es gestern im Bergisel Stadion, Sport vs. Physik.
Beide sollten recht behalten, alles lief genau wie berechnet und als Werner Stock mit 103,27 km/h den Tageshöchstwert fixierte waren alle Beteiligten höchst zufrieden. Die Test haben noch einmal bestätigt, dass im Bergisel Stadion perfekte Bedingungen herrschen. Springt der Funke von den erwarteten 12.000 Zuschauern über ist somit am 02.02.08 alles möglich. The last tests in the stadium where successful
On the 9th January the final tests for the Billabong Air & Style Quarter Pipe Innsbruck-Tirol 08 were successfully completed. 2 Universities have been occupied with the calculation of the required radii and yesterday the moment of truth challenged sport vs. physics. Both Universities should be right. The tests went according to plan and Werner Stock achieved with 103,27 km/h the fastest run of the day. All parties were highly satisfied and the tests proved that the Bergisel Stadium offers best conditions. Everything is possible at the 2nd of February! Watch the video here...

It’s coming home, it’s coming home…
Die lang erwartete Rückkehr ist da. Der Air & Style kehrt zum Ort seiner Entstehung zurück und wird im neuen Bergiselstadion mit einem neuen Format die nächste Generation Air & Style einläuten.
Vor 15 Jahren war es der einzige, heute ist es mit der wichtigste Snowboard Contest weltweit. Am 2.2.2008 wird in Innsbruck wieder Snowboard Geschichte geschrieben.
Im Unterschied zu den Jahren 1993 -1999 heißt das neue Format Quarter Pipe Contest. Am Gegenhang des Bergiselstadions wird die mächtigste Quarter Pipe aller Zeiten errichtet. Auf dieses weiße Monster werden die 24 Rider mit rund 90 Sachen zurasen um ungebremst in den Himmel zu schießen. Viel Airtime bedeutet viel Zeit für atemberaubende Tricks und Styles. Das Fahrerfeld wird von niemand geringerem angeführt als der Legende Terje Haakonsen!

After 8 years the waiting comes to an end. The Air & Style comes home to the legendary Bergisel Stadium with a completely new format to introduce the next generation of Air & Style.15 years ago it was the first in city snowboard event, now it is the most important snowboard contest of the world! At the 2nd of February 08 Innsbruck will write snowboard history again.
The only difference to the years 1993 – 1999 is the new format: a quarter pipe contest. On the opposite hillside of the Bergisel Stadium the riders will face a massive white wall of snow and with up to 90 km/h they will shoot into the skyline of Innsbruck. The long airtime means enough time to stick sick tricks and massive styles. The king of airtime, Terje Hakonsen himselft will be the head of the 24 riders!
