Colin Frei gewinnt den Billabong Air & Style 09
Der Sieger des Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck Tirol 09 heißt Colin Frei (SUI). Der 20-jährige setzte sich in der 12,20 Meter hohen Quarterpipe in einem denkwürdigen Finale gegen den lange führenden Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) und Olivier Gittler (FRA) durch. Bei seinem Siegessprung zeigte er einen BS 540 inverted Indy Grab von 6,50 Meter Höhe. Den prestigeträchtigen Nokia Highest-Air-Award gewann Peetu Piiroinen mit einer Höhe von 8,80 Meter und scheiterte damit nur knapp am Weltrekord (9,80 m) von Terje Haakonsen. Insgesamt 24 der weltbesten Snowboarder hatten vor 13.000 enthusiastischen Fans im Hexenkessel des Bergisel-Stadions Snowboarden vom Feinsten gezeigt. Die beiden österreichischen Fahrer Werner Stock und Peter König belegten in einem starken Starterfeld die Plätze 21 und 24. Snowboard-

hat erneut seine Ausnahmestellung in Sachen Weltklasse-Sport und Atmosphäre unter Beweis gestellt.“ Dazu trugen auch die Top-Acts Mando Diao und Deichkind bei, die das Stadion zum Tanzen brachten. Der mit 6 Sternen ausgezeichnete Contest der Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour führte auch zu einem Wechsel an der Weltranglistenspitze: Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) überholte auf Grund seiner guten Leistung in Innsbruck den Amerikaner Chas Guldemond.

Colin Frei wins Billabong Air & Style 09
The winner of the Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck Tirol 09 is Colin Frei (SUI). The 20-year old prevailed with a BS 540 inverted Indy Grab (height 6.50 m) in a memorable final in the 12.20 m high quarterpipe over Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Olivier Gittler (FRA). The prestigious Nokia Highest Air Award went to Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) with a height of 8.80 m, just falling short of breaking Terje Haakonsen´s world record (9.80 m). 24 of the world´s best snowboarders stunned the enthusiastic crowd of 13,000 at Innsbruck´s sold-out and boiling Bergisel Stadium with a world class performance. Snowboard icon Terje Haakonsen (34/NOR) finished 5th. Andrew Hourmont, founder and organizer of the Billabong Air & Style: „Each one of the 13,000 spectators and the 24 riders has experienced an evening that will be a lasting memory for a long time. The Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck has once again proven its unique position in terms of world class snowboarding and atmosphere.“ The top music acts Mando Diao from Sweden and Deichkind from Germany heavily contributed to this making the whole crowd dance.This 6Star contest on the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour led to a dramatic change in the world rankings: Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) took over
the Tour lead from Chas Guldemond (USA).

Fahrer Update – die letzten 3 Plätze sind vergeben
Megatalent Seppe Smits aus Antwerpen, Belgien, ersetzt Risto Mattila. Risto hat leider einen verstauchten Knöchel und muss 2 Wochen pausieren.
Da auch Nachwuchsfahrer Seb Toutant nicht ganz fit ist (Muskelprobleme) kommt ein weiterer Shootingstar ins Feld: Stale Sandbech, bekannt von seinen großartigen Leistungen bei der Arctic Challenge.
Benedikt Nadig, einer der allerbesten aus der Schweiz, komplettiert das 24er-Feld.

Riders Update – last 3 spots taken
Supernatural Seppe Smits from Antwerpen, Belgium, replaces Risto Mattila. Risto unfortunately spraint his ankle and has to pause for 2 weeks.Since Rookie Seb Toutant can’t compete (muscular problems) another rising rider appears in the field: Stale Sandbech – well known for his great performance at the Arctic Challenge.
Benedikt Nadig one of the top riders from Switzerland completes the field of 24.

Nur noch wenige Tage bis zur größten Party des Jahres. Der Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck-Tirol 09 wird am Samstag wieder tausende Zuschauer in seinen Bann ziehen. Wer es schon nicht mehr erwarten kann, hat bereits am 30.01. Gelegenheit sich am Tivoli in Stimmung zu bringen: Am Freitag lädt die Red Bull Warm Up Session mit einer einzigartigen Mischung aus urbanem Rail-Contest, internationalen Snowboard-Stars, spektakulären Tricks, guter Musik und ausgiebiger Party zur ultimativen Aufwärmrunde ein - absoluter Pflichttermin für alle Snowboard-Fans und Partyhungrigen!
Red Bull Warm Up Session
Just a few days left to the biggest party of the year. On Saturday the Billabong Air & Style will attract tenthousands again. Whoever doesn't want to wait can heat up at the Tivoli Stadium on January 30th: On Friday the Red Bull Warm Up Session is on! One unique mixture of urban rail contest, international snowboard stars, spectacular tricks, good music and intense party. Just perfect to warm up - a must for all snowboard- and party-animals!
Aufbauarbeiten im Bergiselstadion liegen voll im Zeitplan
Um optimale sportliche Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen, braucht es eine perfekt aufeinander abgestimmte Logistik sowie viel Schnee und Stahl.
Im Bergiselstadion wird künstlich beschneit, solange es die Temperaturen zulassen. Damit kann ein großer Teil der benötigten 4.500 Kubikmeter vor Ort produziert werden. Der restliche Schnee kommt mit freundlicher Unterstützung der Stubaier Bergbahnen aus dem Stubaital.
Bereits fertig gestellt sind die aufwändigen Unterbauten und Sonder-Konstruktionen aus Stahl für die über 12 Meter hohe Quarterpipe. Sobald der Schnee auf der Quarterpipe ist, beginnt die diffizile Arbeit des Shapens. Neigung, Radius und Beschaffenheit der Quarterpipe entscheiden maßgeblich über die Qualität des Contests. Ziel ist es, den Fahrern die besten Bedingungen zu bieten, um das sportliche Level im Vergleich zum Vorjahr nochmals zu toppen.
Um die Sicherheit der Fahrer zu maximieren, kommt beim Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck-Tirol 09 erstmalig ein innovatives Airbag-Safetysystem zum Einsatz. Die maßgeschneiderten Luftsäcke wurden von der Air & Style Company gemeinsam mit der Firma Bagjump entwickelt.
Das Stadion bietet beste Sicht von allen Plätzen. Für Details und Zeitlupen gibt es dieses Jahr eine 40 m² Videowall – 8 mm Pixelabstand garantieren beste Bildqualität.

Construction works are on time
To bring up the optimal contest conditions, it needs perfectly concerted logistics plus loads of snow and steel.As long as it is cold enough the artificial snow production runs in the Bergisel Stadium. With that a big part of the necessary 4.500 cubic meters of snow can be covered. The remaining amount comes from the Stubai valley, kindly supported by the Stubaier Bergbahnen.
The complex substructures and special constructions of steel for the over 12 meters high quarter pipe are already finalized. As soon as the snow is on the quarter pipe, the difficult work of shaping begins. The slope, the radius and the conditions of the quarter decide significantly about the quality of the contest. It is the goal to set the riders perfect conditions, so the sportive level of last year’s contest can be topped.
To maximize the safety of the riders, there will be used an innovative Airbag Safety System at the Billabong Air & Style 09. The customized airbags were developed by the Air & Style Company in collaboration with the company Bagjump.
The stadium guarantees best view from every place. For details and slow motions there will be a 40 m² video wall this year – the 8 mm high resolution will guarantee best picture quality.

Chas Guldemond, aktuell Weltranglistenerster, hat sich auf den Quarter Pipes der Tour warmgefahren und macht sich jetzt bereit für den Billabong Air & Style 09. Er wird Christophe Schmidt ersetzen, der sich leider die Schulter gebrochen hat – gute Besserung auf diesem Wege!

Der Billabong Ante Up Gewinner und somit ein weiterer Teilnehmer beim Billabong Air & Style 09 steht fest: es ist Dustin Craven! Wir sind gespannt womit der 20 jährige Kanadier das Publikum im Bergisel überraschen wird. Weiterhin mit dabei ist der Highest Air Gewinner des Vorjahres – Jack Mitrani.

Steve Krijbolder ersetzt Marc Swoboda
Marc Swoboda hat sich verletzt und kann somit leider nicht am Billabong Air & Style 09 teilnehmen. Wir wünschen gute Besserung. Ersetzt wird er vom Holländer Steve Krijbolder, der mit seinen 17 Jahren schon so einige Tricks in der Quarter bereithält und bei der O’Neill Evolution 3. wurde!
Steve Krijbolder replaces Marc Swoboda
Marc Swoboda is injured and unfortunately can’t take part at the Billabong Air & Style 09. We he will recover fast. He will be replaced by the Dutch Steve Krijbolder, who is ready to show a lot of tricks in the quarter. As he did when he came 3rd at the O’neill Evolution.
Ring of Glory in Innsbruck
Der Ring of Glory ist eine der begehrtesten Trophäen in der Snowboardwelt und steht nur dem Sieger des Billabong Air & Style zu. Gestern wurde der Ring von der Geschäftsführerin des Raiffeisen Club Tirol in der jungen RLB (gegenüber des Innsbrucker Hauptbahnhof) entgegengenommen. Dort kann er noch bis zum 30.01.2009 bewundert werden.

The Ring of Glory is one of the most wanted trophies in the snowboarding world. Only the Billabong Air & Style winner will get it. Yesterday the ring was given to the manager of the Raiffeisen Club Tirol to display it in the "junge RLB" (across from the main station Innsbruck) where it can be admired until January the 30th.

You had to wait a long time for the announcement of the second band. Today the secret is disclosed: DEICHKIND is the band beside MANDO DIAO and they will rock the Billabong Air & Style 09 stage. Deichkind - known for crazy outfits, massive dance music and foremost a terrific stage show. On the 31.01.2009 the best riders show their skills in the Bergisel Stadium in Innsbruck - and not just on one regular quarter pipe - no, on the biggest ever.
One more special: the Billabong Air & Style can shine with 6 stars of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour! That means that the event is one of the six best of the world. And in Europe it is by far the biggest snowboard contest with its 13.000 spectators.
